Purple Finches have been declining in eastern North America ever since House Finches were introduced to New York City in the 1940s. It’s rare to see them now in residential and suburban areas except during winter irruptions, but in more rural and and forested regions, like here in the Cape Breton wilderness, they are still fairly common. |
